Lawyer to Lawyer (L2L) Mentorship Program
(October 2009) The Employment Committee launched the Lawyer-to-Lawyer Program ("L2L Program"), the revamped version of the former Attorney Mentorship Program in 2008 and the L2L Program is going strong. The L2L Program is aimed exclusively at addressing the needs of attorneys. We understand the importance of cultivating professional mentoring relationships, and this program is specifically geared towards providing such an opportunity. The L2L Program offers junior attorney Mentees (0-2 years experience) access to a pool of senior attorneys (3+ years experience) and partner Mentors.
WHAT’S THE PURPOSE? To provide attorneys of all levels and practice areas an individualized support system to address issues unique to practicing attorneys who may not have an existing mentor in their own firm or organization, or who may desire an additional AABA mentor.
HOW DOES IT WORK? Mentees will have access to a roster of senior-level attorneys and partners who have graciously volunteered their time to serve as Mentors. Mentees can then select a Mentor who best matches their area of practice / interest. If a Mentee would rather be matched by the Employment Committee, we will do our best to find a Mentor match that best suits the Mentee’s interests.
WHAT’S THE TIME COMMITMENT? We kindly ask that those who serve as Mentors be available to answer questions for Mentees on an ad-hoc basis. Each year, we also seek to have one to two mixers to provide an opportunity for Mentors and Mentees to meet in person.
WHAT DO WE TALK ABOUT? It will depend on the specific needs of each Mentee. Topics of discussion may include: professional/business development, network strategies, substantive areas of law, partnership track issues, success at a firm during junior years, and career transitions.
HOW DO I SIGN UP TO BE A MENTOR OR MENTEE?
