Jesse founded Samovar in 2002 with the simple mission of making people happy - by serving up the best organic tea in the world, and healthy, nourishing food. He tried the corporate game for a few years, and eventually fled, in order to make a bigger impact. He opened the brick and mortar Samovar experience for San Francscans who just needed to slow down, and live a little better. Having spent time studying tea ceremony and martial arts in Japan, he fell back on his roots and decided to start a company rooted in this tea philosophy.
Since then, Samovar has grown to four local SF institutions, and a burgeoning online presence. With the advent of Covid, although our locations are still operating, he has focused on teaching others a practice of “Mindfulness through Tea.” Incorporating my life’s studies of tea ceremony, Zen, yoga, martial arts, gymnastics and bodywork, he has been impressed at how the business has evolved, and so many others have embraced tea as a mindfulness path. This Way of tea allows one to live better, with less anxiety, more calm, better mobility, and increased patience. His approach is fun, delicious, healthy, and unexpected.
