    The AABA Community Services Committee and Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach (APILO) operate a pro bono legal clinic that is staffed by volunteer attorneys and law students. The clinic helps ensure that low-income Bay Area residents, including many mono-lingual immigrants, will receive free legal information and advice from AABA volunteers. The APILO/AABA clinic assists individuals in a number of areas, including immigration and family law issues.

    The Oakland clinic is held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at APILO’s office at 1305 Franklin Street, Suite 410.

    If you are interested in volunteering at the clinic, please contact the AABA Community Services Committee co-chairs for more information about the clinic. Co-chairs are listed here. No prior training or expertise is required, and foreign language skills are in high demand (particularly Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog, and Vietnamese).

    The San Francisco clinic is held on the 4th Wednesday of each month from 5:45 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at UC Hastings’ Civil Justice Clinic at 100 McAllister Street, Suite 300.

    AABA’s Civil Rights Committee presents a screening of “14” that explores the recurring national debate about who has the right to be an American citizen.  This question of birthright citizenship is crucial given the recent changes in national immigration policy.  A special  panel discussion with the filmmakers and legal experts will follow. More info about the movie: http://14themovie.com/

    We are looking for softball gamers that can represent AABA in our inaugural co-ed softball tournament. Specifically we are looking for a team captain, assistant team captain, and position players. Any skill level is encouraged to sign up. This 1-day tournament has a maximum of 3 games and a minimum of 2 games per team. Alternatively, if you don't play softball, we would love for you to join in the following capacities: volunteer umps or AABA supporters.

    Currently, we have several other bay area bar associations that are interested in joining. Look out for updates via email and on the newsletter.
