    The Corporate Counsel - Americas will be responsible for providing legal advice to the Liquid Handling division of Mettler-Toledo (including the operations in Tijuana, MX) and for providing other legal support as assigned for METTLER TOLEDO in North America (including the U.S. and Canada). This role will be part of the Americas legal team, but based in Oakland, CA, reporting to the General Counsel for the Americas (based in Columbus), with dotted line accountability to the General Manager of the Liquid Handling Division. The Corporate Counsel – Americas will be expected to spend ½ of her/his time supporting the Liquid Handling Division and ½ of her/his time supporting other units/corporate legal matters. The Corporate Counsel – Americas will partner with assigned business units to ensure compliance with California employment laws and other California laws (e.g. CCPA, Props 65 and 20, recycling laws, COVID compliance), draft and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements and provide related commercial and employment law advice. This role will also be responsible for developing and delivering training to employees on relevant legal topics and Company policies. Additionally, the Corporate Counsel – Americas will be responsible to support both the General Counsel-Americas and the General Manager-Liquid Handling on a wide variety of initiatives, including litigation support, acquisition support, investigations, compliance, company policies and procedures, and public company matters. The Corporate Counsel – Americas will actively track, independently assess and proactively counsel on other legal risks and trends that may arise which could affect the Company's risk profile or operations. The Corporate Counsel-Americas will work closely on significant or specialized matters with outside counsel from time to time, and will facilitate strong relationships with such counsel. The Corporate Counsel-Americas will also develop deep relationships with local management peers and with other personnel in the Liquid Handling Division and other assigned divisions/business units. Additionally, the Corporate Counsel - Americas will assist the Americas General Counsel and other team attorneys with overall Americas Legal team key projects and initiatives, along with any other projects as assigned. 

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide practical legal advice to assist the organization in achieving its commercial goals while minimizing risks and enhancing compliance 
    • Demonstrate a deep knowledge on employment law and dispute resolution 
    • Develop and conduct legal training sessions to both colleagues and to internal clients on a wide variety of legal-related topics 
    • Draft, negotiate, and interpret (and provide advice in connection with) a wide variety of commercial and employment-related agreements 
    • Perform legal research and draft memoranda summarizing and applying the law on complex issues and in challenging and new areas of the law 
    • Interface with internal and external customers in all aspects of contract negotiation, representing Mettler Toledo professionally at all times 
    • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders 
    • Support and independently coordinate cross-divisional and cross-unit legal projects
    • Manage and efficiently resolve disputes and litigation 
    • Interpret and provide guidance to clients to enable them to follow Company policies and internal procedures 
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
