The Port of Oakland is currently recruiting for two (2) positions of Deputy Port Attorney III; the positions report to the Port Attorney. Under direction, the Deputy Port Attorney III provides expert legal counsel for the Port on a wide variety of complex legal matters; may function as project leader on selected legal projects. The Port Attorney's Office is seeking candidates with expertise in the following practice areas:

Position 1 - Procurement of goods and services, IT Transactions, and public works contracting: Counsel on matters relating to the procurement of goods and services, including information technology transactions, and public works contracting.  This work will cover the spectrum of the procurement process such as bid/proposal preparation, contract drafting and negotiations, bid protests, and contract claim resolution.
 
Position 2 - Environmental compliance and regulatory matters:  Counsel on environmental compliance and regulatory matters, including investigation and remediation of contaminated sites, negotiations with environmental regulatory agencies, air quality, asbestos, PFAS, underground storage tanks, PCBs, lead based paint, drinking water, sanitary sewers, and storm water; environmental cost recovery matters, including pursuing potentially responsible parties; environmental real estate transaction work, including negotiating and drafting the environmental provisions of real estate documents; assisting with insurance placement; and assisting with environmental insurance claims and the associated cost recovery program.
