    At California Bar Foundation, we believe that a state as diverse as California needs a justice system led by advocates of all races and ethnicities. That’s why we invest in the next generation of bright, diverse scholars so that they have the opportunity to enter and succeed in the legal profession—and change the world!

    The Foundation is experiencing significant growth. As we restructure to accommodate a new organizational subsidiary and its revenue stream, we seek a highly-organized, highly competent, and efficient individual for a Development Officer position. The Development Officer will support current development programs and periodically work with the new subsidiary as it launches its corporate affinity and insurance program.

    In the first year, this position will focus on managing the Foundation’s annual development calendar, conducting donor research, organizing donor cultivation, processing gifts and acknowledgements, managing donor stewardship, maintaining donor records, and supporting the Board of Directors as needed.

    By the second year, under the guidance of the Strategic Partnerships Director, the position will transfer to the Foundation’s Subsidiary and be primarily responsible for managing the Subsidiary's corporate affinity and insurance programs.

    The selected individual must be able to exercise independent judgment, resourcefulness, and discretion. Outstanding attention-to-detail, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills are required. Our ideal candidate is someone with significant fund development experience. The position is exempt, full-time, based in San Francisco.

    Year One Responsibilities include

    • Manage donor data and gift processing and regularly report on fundraising progress.
    • Coordinate the planning and implementation of the Foundation’s annual Diversity Awards & Scholarship Reception, periodic Diversity & Drinks events, and other donor cultivation events.
    • Research donors, identify prospects, and maintain prospect lists.
    • Assist with donor cultivation and development of promotional materials and media strategies.
    • Draft solicitation and stewardship letters and other donor related correspondence.
    • Provide development support to Foundation’s Board of Directors.
    • Maintain Foundation donor mailing and email lists and manage all donor-related mailings.
    • Provide administrative support for annual giving, diversity scholarships, and fellowship fundraising programs.

    Year Two Responsibilities Include

    • Interact with sponsored business entities, brokers, and insurance carrier representatives of corporate affinity and insurance programs to anticipate program changes and any other relevant matters;
    • Review marketing materials for corporate affinity and insurance programs;
    • Assist with Subsidiary Board and volunteer committee meetings;
    • Develop a strategic plan to increase Subsidiary revenues through the corporate affinity and insurance programs;
    • Act as liaison directing calls and emails from California licensed attorneys regarding corporate affinity and insurance to appropriate vendors, insurance brokers, and insurance carriers; and
    • Work with Subsidiary’s Board and staff to evaluate effectiveness of current programs and the addition of new corporate affinity and insurance programs.

    Qualifications Include

    • Passion for our mission of building a better justice system for all Californians;
    • Bachelor’s degree required;
    • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience managing fundraising activities for a non-profit organization or foundation preferred;
