    Description

    Under direction, to perform professional legal work in the Office of the District Attorney.

    There are four levels of Attorney in the District Attorney's Office. Candidates who are referred for interview will be assessed as to the appropriate level if a job offer is made.

    Attorney I requires active membership in the California State Bar upon appointment.

    The salary for Attorney I is $53.43 - $56.11 hourly, $4,274.24 - $4,488.48 biweekly, $9,260.85 - $9,725.04 monthly and $111,130.24 - $116,700.48 annually.

    Attorney II requires active membership in the California State Bar upon appointment, and one year of experience as an Attorney I with Santa Clara County, or two years of experience in the full time practice of law in a government agency or in private practice.

    The salary for Attorney II is $62.65 - $68.05 hourly, $5,012.00 - $5,444.08 biweekly, $10,859.33 - $11,795.51 monthly and $130,312.00 - $141,546.08 annually.

    Attorney III requires active membership in the California State Bar upon appointment, and two years of experience as an Attorney II with Santa Clara County, or four years of experience in the full time practice of law in a government agency or in private practice.

    The salary for Attorney III is $74.86 - $82.53 hourly, $5,988.80 - $6,602.48 biweekly, $12,975.73 - $14,305.37 monthly and $155,708.80 - $171,664.48 annually.

    Attorney IV requires active membership in the California State Bar upon appointment, and two years of experience as an Attorney III with Santa Clara County, or six years of experience in the full time practice of law in a government agency or in private practice.

    The salary for Attorney IV is $91.01 - $113.28 hourly, $7,280.64 - $9,062.00 biweekly, $15,774.72 - $19,634.33 monthly and $189,296.64 - $235,612.00 annually.

    Upon appointment, candidates must either possess a valid California Driver's License or an ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation to carry out essential job-related functions.

    Eligible candidates must pass a background check to qualify for employment.

    Employment Standards

    Active membership in the California State Bar is required upon appointment.

    * Experience as an attorney in a District Attorney's Office in another public agency may be considered equivalent for appointment or promotion in the corresponding District Attorney's Office in the County of Santa Clara.

    Knowledge and abilities consistent with the highest standard of the legal profession and with the level of difficulty and expertise required for the intended appointment.
