At K&L Gates, we are looking for smart, imaginative and hard-working people with diverse backgrounds, experiences and ideas to join us. Perhaps our search for talented visionaries and your search for important and impactful work lead to the same place.

We are seeking a Special Counsel to join our Mass Tort and Complex Commercial Litigation & Dispute team. This full-time, non-partnership-track lawyer will be resident in our San Francisco office and will participate in and manage many aspects of ongoing litigation in various jurisdictions on the west coast. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4-6 years’ experience in asbestos litigation - insurance defense, general liability or toxic tort litigation - at a law firm with an established practice. This position will manage a team of paralegals, lawyers and other staff; as such, candidates should be organized, have a background in case management, including deposition and motion schedules, and a familiarity with litigation databases to maintain case data and claim tracking. We seek candidates with proven experience conducting factual investigations and discovery, preparing pleadings, motion practice, taking and defending depositions, participating in mediation, and drafting communications. Strong candidates will have exceptional oral and written communication skills, be team players, and have strong analytical and legal research skills. Must be licensed to practice in California.

This position will be eligible for some of the benefits described by the firm’s current policies for lawyers, including health insurance, liability insurance, and the opportunity to attend CLE programming, among others.

Candidates must be self-starters who possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team. We require strong academic credentials, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing the highest quality client service. Candidates will work closely with experienced lawyers who will provide active mentoring and opportunities to assume increasing levels of responsibility and client contact.
