    OAKLAND, CA
    SALARY: $15,887-$19,681 per month

    The Port of Oakland (“Port”) is currently recruiting for the position of DEPUTY PORT ATTORNEY IV; the position reports to the Port Attorney.  Under direction, the Deputy Port Attorney IV provides expert legal counsel for the Port on a wide variety of complex legal matters, including complex real estate transactions and litigation and functions as project manager on selected legal projects. The incumbent performs professional work and exercises a considerable amount of independent judgment and initiative in representing his or her assigned internal clients and may be assigned the most complex cases as special projects.  The responsibilities of the Deputy Port Attorney IV may differ depending on the position’s primary area of responsibility, and the incumbent may be assigned or reassigned to any of the specialty areas within the Port Attorney’s office.  

    The primary areas of responsibility for this position will be focused on, but not limited to: 1) commercial real estate transactions, especially in the Seaport area, including secured transactions; 2) Seaport development and operations including rail and security; 3) all forms of utilities (electricity, gas, sewer, drinking water, fire water, wastewater, etc., including the establishment of rates and charges/cost of service); and 4) Port transparency (open meeting laws, public records).  

    The successful candidate will possess a combination of education and experience that reflect the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.  A typical combination would include graduation from an accredited college or university with a juris doctorate PLUS seven years of professional work as an attorney with experience in real estate law.
