Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund  (DREDF) in Berkeley, California seeks an attorney with at least three years of active federal court litigation experience to help develop and litigate cutting edge cases that advance the rights of people with disabilities, especially the educational rights of children and youth with disabilities.

DREDF is a leading national disability civil rights law and policy center directed by disabled people and parents who have disabled children. Our mission is to advance the civil and human rights of people with disabilities through legal advocacy, training, education, and public policy and legislative development. DREDF’s staff includes seven lawyers, two policy advocates, four parent advocates, and other professionals.

Our current litigation priorities include: enforcing the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. In education, we are especially committed to ensuring that children with disabilities receive appropriate education, supports and services they are entitled to in order to learn effectively, stay in school and out of the school-to-prison pipeline.

Applicants must have recent federal court litigation experience, excellent legal research, analysis, and writing skills, and a strong commitment to civil rights. Experience in public interest litigation, especially litigation advancing disability rights is strongly preferred.

    Compensation:

The starting salary for an individual with three years of relevant experience is $65,000. Compensation for attorneys with more than three years of relevant experience will fall within DREDF’s salary scale.

    Benefits:

Generous vacation and excellent benefits including health, vision, and dental insurance, 403B retirement plan, life insurance, and a flexible workplace.
