    Regional Consumer Managing Attorney Position: BayLegal seeks an attorney with a strong commitment to public interest and social justice advocacy, demonstrated experience as a supervisor, and vision and experience protecting and advocating for the interests of low‐income consumers. As Regional Managing Attorney, you will be a member of BayLegal's senior management team, working in collaboration with BayLegal's Directors, Managing Attorneys and Regional Counsels and have the opportunity to:

    ·       Learn and engage with the consumer practice team in addressing the diverse legal needs of underserved and vulnerable communities in BayLegal's seven‐ county regional service area and beyond.

    ·       Develop and implement the vision and direction of BayLegal's consumer law practice.

    ·       Support, mentor and supervise the legal work of all attorneys in the unit and consumer matters taken by other BayLegal staff, to ensure overall effectiveness and high quality client services, strategic policy advocacy and litigation, including:

    §  Conducting regular case strategy meetings, review active and closed cases for quality services and skills development;

    §  Leading and supporting team members and broader BayLegal staff identifying important and emerging issues facing the client community;

    §  Conducting staff evaluations and engaging in staff professional development;

    §  Tracking relevant consumer practice developments and outcomes, and informing staff; and

    §  Participating in hiring, promotion and discipline related matters and decisions.

           Serving  BayLegal  clients  by  co‐counseling  on  affirmative/impact  litigation,  representing individuals and assisting with community based clinics on a limited basis;

           Engage with, build and foster broad public‐private partnerships, including with governmental agencies, courts, community based organizations, and pro bono partners, to ensure integrated services and address systemic barriers facing BayLegal's client community;

           Identify systemic advocacy goals and engage in policy advocacy and litigation.

           Conduct and Coordinate Training: Conduct and coordinate staff trainings on topics related to consumer law practice.

           Work with BayLegal's Development and Communications team to:

    §  Identify and assisting with pursing funding opportunities;

    §  Assist in reporting on successes and work for grant reports;

    §  Oversee compliance with grants and contracts that support the practice; and

    §  Assist with communications with staff and stakeholders regarding BayLegal's consumer work practice, successes and importance.

           Participating in BayLegal's senior management team to support BayLegal's mission, goals and operations.

    Requirements/Qualifications/About the Successful Candidate:

    ·       Juris Doctorate and good standing membership in the California State Bar;

    ·       Five or more years of legal practice experience, including consumer protection related cases and legal supervision;

    ·       Strong personal work ethic and ability to organize time, manage diverse activities, and meet critical  deadlines with minimal supervision;

    ·       Excellent writing, editing, and proof‐reading skills, with attention to detail;

    ·       Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with a dynamic team;

    ·       Curious and self‐directed with an ability to anticipate what needs to be done;

    ·       Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects while maintaining a firm grasp of individual  project details;

    ·       Humility in working with colleagues and clients across the spectrum of diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio‐economic status, immigration status, religion, physical and mental disabilities, and/or limited English proficiency.

Please provide a general overview of your experience litigating matters in state and federal trial and appellate courts, and your public policy experience. In addition, please provide a list of the most significant cases in which you have appeared as counsel. For each case on your list, please provide a citation to the decision (or, if none was published, the name of the case and the case number); a brief description of the case and why it is significant; and a brief description of your role in the case (e.g. whether you were sole, lead or associate counsel, and what significant litigation tasks you undertook). If there are more than 10 cases that fit this category, please limit your response to the 10 most significant cases.
