The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of California is nowhiring experienced attorneys to serve as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in the Civil Division of its Oakland, SanFrancisco and SanJose offices.

Employment with the USAO offers a unique and challenging experience for the highly motivated attorney: an opportunity to litigate a broad range of cases involving significant and complex issues on behalf of the United States in federal court. Working in the Civil Division, you will be part of a dedicated team representing the United States and federal agencies in a variety of cases, including, employment, tort, constitutional, FOIA, Administrative Procedure Act, and False Claims Act cases.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys in the Civil Division are active at both the trial and appellate levels. Day-to-day responsibilities include working with client agencies to gather information, conducting civil investigations of claims of violations of federal law, taking depositions, preparing and answering interrogatories, negotiating for settlement, engaging in motions practice, trying cases, and writing and arguing appeals.
