    Clif Bar & Company is looking for an ASSOCIATE GENERAL COUNSEL to join our legal team.

    The legal department is functionally responsible for all Clif Bar’s legal affairs, and serves as both an enterprise guardian to ensure legal and ethical compliance, and as a collaborative business partner to help create enterprise value consistent with Clif Bar’s Five Aspirations business model.

    The Associate General Counsel will be a legal generalist with a strong focus on sales and marketing legal advice, business transactions, regulatory compliance, HR, and other legal matters appropriate to a growing organic food business.  He or she will report to Clif Bar’s General Counsel.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Business Transactions/Contracts. The Associate General Counsel will work closely with our sales and marketing teams, and will draft, review, and negotiate commercial and other contracts, including procurement, co-packing and food industry-related contracts, sales and marketing contracts, sponsorships, IT, consulting, construction, event, promotional, sweepstakes, and other agreements. The AGC will work with the legal team and business colleagues to find ways of efficiently and quickly managing the high contract volume.
    • Compliance and Ethics.  Help ensure that Clif Bar’s products and operations in the US and world-wide comply with all applicable law and regulations, including Food and Drug Administration food regulations, and European Union and the United Kingdom food law and regulations.
    • HR Legal Partner.  Provide support to Clif Bar’s HR Department.
    • Other Legal Matters.  Evaluate business and legal risks quickly and efficiently; manage trademark, copyright, trade secret, and other intellectual property matters; assist with various corporate governance matters; and be active in litigation and claims management.
    • Training and Education.  Train business colleagues in legal matters relevant to business operations and business decision-making.
